As you may already know, I have a deep love for sweet potatoes. Baked, mashed, roasted, french-fried…all of it! So what do I do to get more sweet potato lovin’? Add it to a smoothie. This Sweet Potato Healing Smoothie will make your body feel good from the inside out.
It’s smoothie weather and I can’t seem to get enough of them these days. Of course, fruit and greens make for a killer smoothie, but it’s fun to switch it up and use some more non-traditional ingredients for a change. I used a sweet potato I had baked in the oven the day before and removed the skin and mashed it up, a huge time-saver!
Sweet potatoes pack a nutritious punch. They are filled with vitamins A, C, calcium, potassium, manganese and fiber. Sweet potatoes are known for their antioxidants, including beta-carotene that the body converts into vitamin A, which plays an important role in vision, immune function and healthy bones. They are a good source of complex carbohydrates that are slowly released into the body and digested for steady blood sugar control.
The addition of turmeric adds the healing component of this smoothie. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-septic properties. With continued use, it has shown to help relieve arthritis pain and inflammation and aids in digestion for some chronic diseases.
This Sweet Potato Healing Smoothie will make your skin glow and give you long-lasting energy. Only natural sweetness in this smoothie, thanks to the banana. Top it off with some more antioxidants from cinnamon and drink up!
